We are fully enrolled for the 2025-2026 school year.

Application Selection Process

Priority enrollment is offered to current families, siblings, and alumni families. Other applications are reviewed on a first come, first serve basis.  When offering enrollment, we also consider date of initial inquiry, attendance at Open House and/or touring the school.

We are happy to provide you with the names and contact information for some current families who are willing to speak with you about their experiences at the Center!

Admissions Process

• In February/March, enrollment offers are made (please see the admissions timeline above). Depending on the classroom and circumstance, families have 3-5 days to accept. Families accept a spot by returning signed tuition contract, signed family handbook acknowledgement, and a deposit equaling 1 month of tuition.

• In July, families begin receiving correspondence about the new school year. Classroom visits are scheduled. Enrollment paperwork is sent via the brightwheel platform.

• In August, enrollment paperwork is due. All families are invited to our annual Pizza Picnic.

• The school year begins on the Tuesday following Labor Day.

Ages Served

We enroll children from 2 years 3 months to 5 years-old, as of September 1.

Hours of Operation

The center is open year-round with the exceptions noted below.  Our hours of operation are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Tuition

Tuition is set by the Parent Advisory Board each February for the following fall. Tuition increases go into effect September 1st each year.

Tuition for the 2025-2026  academic year (beginning September 2, 2025) is:

• • Green Room

    • 5 days/week: $2,645 per month 

  • Blue Room

    • 5 days/week: $2,375 per month

Tuition is paid in advance on a monthly basis.

Contracts

The Open Center operates on a year-round basis and staff is hired on an annual basis. As a result, we require that families sign a one-year contract with the center that is renewable upon agreement by the center and the family. The contract covers the period from September 1st (or your child’s start date) through the following August 31st.

School Closures

We are closed for the following holidays for the 2025-2026 school year. When Independence Day or Juneteenth fall on a Tuesday or Thursday, we will close the Monday prior or the Friday after.

• Good Friday (Staff Development Day)

• Memorial Day

• Juneteenth

• July 3rd, 2026 (Independence Day public holiday)

• The week before Labor Day

We follow the Somerville Public Schools for closures due to inclement weather.

Summer Visits 

We arrange for newly enrolled children to visit the center with a parent once or twice before they begin attending the program;  this allows them to meet the teachers and other children and to become familiar with their new classroom. It helps children to already have a friend or at least a familiar face prior to starting school.  Families are also given a roster with the names and email addresses of the families in their child’s classroom and are encouraged to arrange to meet other families over the summer.
